Room-by-Room Guide to Chromalux® in the Home

So you're ready to switch to Chromalux® or Lumichrome® full spectrum lighting. You're looking forward to swap out plain and perhaps glary yellow light for a soft, pure and clarifying light that will work for your health and well-being. 

For those of you reaching out for our lighting guidance- we wrote this guide for you! Following standard lighting layouts and best practices, here are our recommendations for the best Chromalux products to use in each room in your home.

Hallways:

Your standard A lamp, Globe lamp, or Candle (chandelier) lamp will do well here. Choose clear glass if for use in a covered sconce, choose frosted glass if for use in an open sconce.

Recommended lamps:

Chromalux® Incandescent Globe, standard A, or candleabra varieties depending on the light output desired.

Living room:

Some of you may have recessed cans or track lighting, in addition to floor lamps. For recessed lighting, check the diameter of your recessed cans and choose either a PAR 30 or R30 bulb for 5’’ diameter, or PAR 38 and R40 bulbs for 5.5’’ or larger diameter cans. For led, choose either warm white or natural white color temperature according to taste.

Chromalux® Reflector Flood lamps (incandescent or equivalent)

Chromalux® Halogen PAR lamps

Dining room:

Recessed cans, track lighting, chandelier, pendant lights.

For recessed lighting, check the diameter of your recessed cans and choose either a PAR 30 or R30 bulb for 5’’ diameter, or PAR 38 and R40 bulbs for 5.5’’ or larger diameter cans. For LED, choose either warm white or natural white color temperature according to taste.

Bathroom:

Recessed and vanity lighting is typical.

Office:

We usually see fluorescent troffers, desk lamps, and floor lamps. Please measure any troffers and choose a T8 for diameters of 1’’, and T12 for 1.5’’ diameters.

Recommended lamps:

For T8 troffers:

Lumichrome fluorescent 1XX - provides a cool, bright, and energizing white light

Lumichrome fluorescent 1XC - provides a more neutral and natural white light

For T12 troffers:

Lumichrome fluorescent 1XX - provides a cool, bright, and energizing white light

Lumichrome fluorescent 1XZ - provides a bright white light with slightly more red tones

Lumichrome fluorescent 2X - provides a soothing and gentle light comparable to the light of an incandescent. 

For floor and table lamps:

Chromalux® Incandescent

Extra Recommendation: Light therapy box for the winter months

Basement:

Maybe you have fluorescent troffers, floor lamps, or recessed cans. For recessed lighting, check the diameter of your recessed cans and choose either a PAR 30 or R30 bulb for 5’’ diameter, or PAR 38 and R40 bulbs for 5.5’’ or larger diameter cans. For LED, choose either warm white or natural white color temperature according to taste
